Hi there, it’s Dale Beaumont here. And in this video, I’m going to show you a tool that will help you to discover how any website was built.

This is a really handy tool to know about, especially if you want to take your website and your conversion rate to a whole new level.

Let me explain.

So just the other day, I was helping a client of ours who has an e-commerce business, they were looking at this other successful e-commerce website and wanting to know, how it was actually built, what platform did they use? And what type of CRM system are they using? What type of remarketing? How are they setting up their ads?

And so I said, well, let’s check it out. And I showed them this particular tool, and they were blown away.

So I thought that this could benefit you or someone that you know. So let me do a quick demo of this tool right now and show you what it is and how it works. So the tool is called BuiltWith and the website is builtwith.com.

And so what you can do if there’s a particular website that you like, for example, let’s just say The Iconic, which was the one that we were looking at just the other day, so we’re going to do is going to cut and paste in the URL of the actual website into builtwith.com and we’re going to click on lookup.

And then what happens is, within a couple of seconds it’s brought back a whole bunch of data and a whole bunch of information. So we can see what’s actually happening behind the scenes or under the hood of this particular website.

It’s kind of like literally lifting up, like the bonnet of a car and seeing the engine and seeing exactly how that car is actually performing. So what we’re going to do is we’re now going to have a quick look, it’s got different sections here.

Some of this you’ll understand, some of you may not. But you can talk to a professional, your professional coach, website developer, or marketing consultant. And they’ll be able to help you to break this down and explain to you what these things mean.

But at the top, you’ve got analytics and tracking. So we can see, there’s a particular software here called Rapleaf, which this company is using to manage some of their analytics. There’s also something called Hotjar, which is something that we recommend to all of our clients as well, I’m not going to do an explanation of all of these different tools.

But we can see what type of analytics that they’re running. They’re also running Twitter analytics, they’re also looking at Google conversion tracking as well, Google Analytics as you would expect, and they’ve got Facebook installed in there as well and a bunch of other things.

Then we can look at widgets. These are the different widgets that they have installed. They’re using Google Tag Manager as well, that they’re using Workplace by Facebook, they’re using a social media sharing tool called AddThis.

Now, we can also have a quick look at the e-commerce platform that they have built this on as well. There’s some information around that now we can click on it, and we can get more information but I won’t do that now.

We can see some of the frameworks, we can see that they’re using the Google Display Network as well. We can see the hosting that they’re using, and what they’re using in terms of their mobile, etc.

So this is all the stuff that is behind the scenes of this particular website. And oftentimes, you’ll be able to see how the website was built. This website is actually being built on Shopify, but it’s a customised version of Shopify. And we can see all the different integrations that they have.

So this is basically again, a quick way to be able to see what other people in your industry are doing, the type of tracking that they’re using, how they built their actual website, and also how they’re performing in terms of their technology.

So if you’ve ever been curious as to what someone else is doing, and how they are running their website, and specifically, if you have an e-commerce store, this is going to be really useful, because you might go, “Oh, they have this and I don’t.” So it could be a missed opportunity for you and something that you may want to add to your website in order to improve performance.

Also, you can oftentimes look at companies outside of your country, maybe companies in America that are award-winning and doing an amazing job. You can check out what they’re doing, and see how you can incorporate it into your business.

So that is BuiltWith, it’s a cool service to find out what’s happening under the hood of different websites out there.

So I hope you found that useful. If you did, let me know in the comments below. And also, if there’s someone else that could benefit from this particular content then consider sharing it with someone that you know.

So that is Built With and now you know, thanks for watching.

Bye for now.
